General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Caffeine is a central nervous system stimulant belonging to the methylxanthine class. Its psychoactive effects are due to the blockade of adenosine receptors of brain.
It can increase the heart rate by increasing the levels of catecholamines. It can increase the systolic blood pressure by enhancing angiotensin II and epinephrine. Both these effects can result in heart palpitations and increase blood pressure.
It would better to avoid its intake as it is showing such effects.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
