Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Intake Of Bupropion Cause Extreme Abdominal Pain?
I have been on Buproprion XL 300 (generic Wellbutrin) for 10 years as a preventive for major depression. I suffer from severe stomach pain more and more often. Now that I think about it, I believe the stomach issues started about the same time as taking the medication. I have been diagnosed with anything from GERD, IBS, substantial hiatal hernia. If this is due to a medication side effect, what is the long term consequences of putting up with this for so long? I m sorry I thought I could pay once...not a monthly subscription.
I understand your concern. Bupropion is a very effective antidepressant, suited for long term use. Stomach pain is a known side effect of this drug, however, since you have been experiencing it over an extended period of time, coupled with GERD and IBS.
I suggest you talk to your doctor to discuss the possibility of switching to another drug. Wishing you good health and all the best.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Ornela Ademovi
