Infectious Diseases Specialist, Dr. Arun's Response
Hello, Thnx to contact us. If I am your treating doctor I would like to advice you that having HBV(Hepatitis B virus) in you will have great chance of spread to your wife. so In my advice vaccine is necessary for your wife. If your wife is infected with HBV than it has more chance to spread to baby as compared HIV. Overall HBV has more potential to spread than HIV. So first check the status of your wife if it is positive than you treat your wife with antiviral agent, vaccinate her and than plan for pregnancy. If she is negative that vaccinate her take dure precaution and plan for pregnancy. If your wife is positive and she is bearing a child in her womb that start antiviral treatment so as to reduce the transmitssion. If you have anything else to ask please contact me. Thanx.
