Please advise if I should have my hiatus hernia repaired? I am presently on Topsole 40 mg one tab every morning 30 mins before breakfast. I still however get an uncomfortable pain in my chest which is frightening and uncomfortable. What does the op entail and what is the recovery period. Many thanks Karynne.
Hi. Thanks for your query. Noted the history hiatus hernia, presently on Topsole 40, has uncomfortable pain in chest which is frightening, wants to know about the hiatus hernia Surgery. With the restricted history and non-availability of the detailed reports it would be difficult to say about the role of surgery. The general outlines are: First of all you have to consult a Gastroenterologist for proper evaluation of the hiatus hernia. We have to know the type of hernia, the laxity at the hiatus, the gap between the muscles, your symptomatology, response to medical management. The Surgical Gastroenterologist will decide the possibility of surgery, its effectiveness, the possibility that you will be benefited and then only the surgery may be conducted. This is definitely a risky surgery with no prediction about the results. You have to take a chance and be ready for the re-surgery if need be. '
