Does Herpes Spread Through Sexual Contact?

Hi,
I just got diagnosed with genital herpes two days ago. I have earlier never had any symptoms of herpes and now after 8 years of marriage I get this diagnose. Its just a bit tumbling. I read that herpes is spread from one person to another during sexual contact and that you may be infected with herpes when your vagina comes into contact with someone who already has herpes. Is that the only cause, can it be something else? Its hard to believe that after 8 years of marriage I would get it now and not earlier..unless my husband.... lets not get in to that. I have during the last 10 years suffered from recurrent yest infections that has only got worse with time. I have been to the gynecologist several times and they have all said and cured it as an yest infection. Could it have been herpes without the blisters all the time? Where can my husband go to get tested for herpes?

Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic

You are right in thinking that the only way one can possibly have herpes is through sexual contact with an infected partner.
If your husband is the only sexual partner and has always been the only one; it is a strong possibility that he got it from someone else outside.
Yeast is very different from herpes; itchy vagina and curdy discharge, there are no sores.
Genital herpes on the other hand presents with recurrent painful well defined discrete genital sores. There may be burning on passing urine and pain.
Therefore these two conditions can be easily distinguished from each other.
If one of the partners is detected positive for herpes, it is advisable for the other partner to get tested as well.
Your husband may visit a sexual health specialist for testing.
