Does Frequent Masturbation Affect Sex Life?

Hi, I have been married now for 4 months. My husband seems to only be able to hold an erection when he takes a pill to have sex with me. The other night he couldn t hold it, so he just layed in bed with me a few minutes and then went to the living room and turned on the tv. At about 2:am I woke up and went in there and found him with a football game on and really going after himself masterbating. Hard and quite perky. My question is, if he has been doing this to himself for a long time (he s 63 yrs. old) could this effect his having sex with me? He was divorced 2 years ago from a 28 year marriage and says they rarely had sex. MJ

Hello MJ and welcome.

There could be two reasons here and either one or both of them could be the cause for the current situation:

1. He could be masturbating too often, and thus not be able to attain an erection when he tries to get physical with you

2. The Stimulus: This could again have two aspects to it, A: It could be that you are not doing enough to stimulate him enough to get an erection, B. What you are doing could not be his kind of thing, some individuals find different things (not always normal things) sexually arousing

It would be best to discuss these things with him, if he allows you to do so or convince him to visit a sex therapist who should be able to provide a better insight on the situation.

Hope this helps.

Best wishes.
