Does Fluctuating Platelet Count Indicate Dengue Infection? Child With Vomiting, Stomach Ache With Low Platelet Count

Hello just want to ask if platelet count does flactuates when suffering from dengue. We have different kinds of strands of dengue here in the Philippines so its difficult to confirm if it's a case of dengue, doctors would just suspect it and would alays monitor the platlete count. Patient is still 5 years old and is already at the hospital, high fevr started 2 days ago with constant vomiting, stomach ache and would not like to eat nor drink milk. :(. Platelet counts yesterday pm 120 then this morning 107, then as of 4pm this pm 128.

Hi,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.

Platelet count may fall in complicated dengue fever. But low platelet count is found in a number of conditions.

They include viral fevers, malaria etc

So a dengue serology and other investigations should identify the exact cause of fever.

Hope this helps.
Take care.
