Does Elevated Liver Enzymes Cause Increased Anxiety?
I am currently taking several antibiotics including rifampin which is know to be hard on the liver. I get tested ever month and have significantly elevated liver enzymes. i am wonder could this elevation cause increase anxiety? I have noticed recently a drastic increase in my anxiety and wondered if the two could be linked?
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.
I understand that you are worried about your anxiety problems and are wondering whether it is related to your elevated enzymes. Let me clarify that there is no proven direct correlation that elevated liver enzymes can increases anxiety.
However, it is possible that the whole process of getting medical tests done and knowing that you are having a liver problem could indirectly increase your anxiety.
Anxiety problems can be treated effectively with medication and psychological therapy. So, I would suggest that you seek professional help from a psychiatrist to control your anxiety problems.
Wish you all the best.
