Does Ear Infection Cause Auditory Hallucinations?

I m asking on behalf of someone I know, Could an ear infection or ear irritation cause auditory hallucinations in the form of a voice? Said person has tremendous amounts of ear wax to the point of heavy hearing impairment and needs ear draining about once a month due to the irritation. Thank you

General Surgeon 's  Response
Yes, Ear infection can cause auditory hallucination if the infection has travelled to the inner ear or the nerve.
IT is best to show to the ENT Surgeon as the proper examination is possible only by him and no suppositions help .
It needs to be well investigated. I would advise:
CT scan of the mastoids and the sinuses. This will lead to the proper treatment to get a cure. Hearing Impairment is to be investigated by Audiometry.
If the ENT Surgeon's opinion says this is not a serious infection or so, this may be due to Psychosis.
