Does Doxepin Cause Anxiety?

I was taking Doxepin for about 15 years and on 25 mg a day. I started taking it every other day and then twice a week. My Dr. felt I could go on Prozac. I took those for 5 days and had some bad side affects and had to stop 3 days ago. Now I am having some horrible anxiety and want to go back on my Doxepin which I have. Is it safe to do that now?

It is common to have a resumption of symptoms when stopping a drug that is controlling them. Stopping a drug that treats anxiety and/or depression will often result in the depression/anxiety coming back.
Generally, it is NOT advised for patients to just start choosing whatever drug they liked without any input from the doctor.
So, cannot say in your particular case, but generally, one would take a drug, see if one could go off it, and if it didn't work out, try a different tapering strategy. There might not be a strong reason to go to a different drug that does the same thing.
