Does Discontinuing Pantoprazole For Acid Reflux Cause Side Effects?

I have been taking Pantoprazole 40 mg for almost 2 years. It was prescribed for acid reflux, and my doctor never checks for any problems. After becoming aware of the possible problems such as bone fractures I am concerned. I am 80 years old and in good health, but have been having a lot of leg cramps at night. I also have been fighting fatigue, but thought it was age related I would like to discontinue this medication, and wonder if I can just stop taking it. Joyce Drury

Hi Joyce
No real problem in stopping the pantoprazole but you should discuss that with your doctor. This may be a low magnesium problem caused by the medication so you should also have your serum magnesium level checked
