Does Delayed Period Indicate Pregnancy?

hello! my last LMP was august 20 , i am expecting to have my menstrual cycle by the 20th of september, after 3rd and 5th day of delayed menstruation i decided to have a pregnancy test (it showed negative twice). so after (september 26), i went to an ob gyne doctor, i had a trans-vaginal ultrasound , she said that i ovulated last week ( which was supposedly my menstruation day), i was confused. never had i experienced any delayed menstruation. it always between 28-31 days cycle. i wanted to know if im pregnant or not as early as possible, so she prescribed me with duphaston. question:1) when the doctor said that i ovulated third week of september, when can i perform an hcg urine test? 2) while taking duphaston, i could feel that some symptoms of about to menstruate is heightened, is it an indication that i am about to menstruate?

Hello,

I can understand your concern. Occasional late ovulation can be ignored and should not be a cause of concern. If this happens more frequently or continuously every month, then you may need to go into investigations regarding it.

To answer your first question, you can take the hcg urine test after about 2 weeks of your ovulation date or I can say one or two days before your projected periods' date.

In addition, Duphaston is synthetic progesterone so you are bound to feel symptoms that you normally feel before menstruation. After completing the course of this medicine, you will get periods in 2-4 days.

I hope this information helps. Thank you for choosing HCM. Let me know if I can answer any follow up questions for you.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
