Does Chest Pain And Muscle Spasms Indicate Heart Attack?

I went to the Er Thur.. extreen chest pain and my left arm felt as if the muscles in it were spasming. They did an Ekg, blood work, and gave me 3 nitro's before the pain stopped. After they did a Cardiac Cath they did tell me that there was no damage to my heart. I didnt get to talk to the Dr. (due to no sleep and the med the gave me before the procedure) ( I was out) Did I have a heart attack? I do have to follow up with my cardiologist within 2 weeks

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Coronary angiogram is the gold standard test to rule out the diagnosis of coronary artery disease, as you cardiac cath was normal, it can not be a heart attack, as any blockage in coronary artery will be reflected in cardiac cath. Most likely your pain was either due to gastritis or muscle spasm as these condition also mimic cardiac pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Rishu Saxena
