Hi, this is Dr.Subhadeep. Thank you for the opportunity for helping you. As you have mentioned, your daughter has negative cylindrical power of -2 in the right eye. Negative power is called Myopia and cylindrical power is called astigmatism. So in Right eye she has 'Simple Myopic Astigmatism' and in Left eye 'Compound Myopic Astigmatism' as she has both spherical and cylindrical negative powers in left eye.
Refractive power of the eyes can change over time as the child grows as the eye size and shape also changes with growth, especially at the time of puberty. It cannot be predicted whether power will increase or decrease in future, this has to be monitored by routine eye check ups at least once a year, or earlier if the child notices blurred vision or headaches while using the current glasses. The important thing is for her to be able to see clearly with correct power glasses. If you could let me know what is her vision with the glasses, it would give me a better picture. The vision is usually mentioned in the glass prescription given to you.
Another important point is that since she has astigmatism which is more than -1 , you should get a test called 'corneal topography or orbscan ' done. this test will give more precise values about the power and curvature of the cornea, and is a useful tool to monitor progression of cylindrical eye power . This test should be available at an Eye hospital.
Lastly, children very commonly do have this kind of eye power, so as long as you keep routinely checking the power, yearly, there should not be any cause for worry. Eye power usually stabilises between 20-25 years of age, after which you can consider other options to permanently correct the refractive error, such as laser treatment.
Do let me know if this information was useful for you.
Thank you.
