my daughter is in 29 months of second pregnancy .As the fluid level during first pregnancy is less than normal betesol was given in 32 weeks. but now though fluid level is normal betensol was given two times in two days. since the second injection she could not notice the movements . pl. advise me whether the loss of movements are due to betensol or any other reason.

welcome to hcm,
short answer: betamethasone is given in pregnancy for lung maturity of the baby
detailed answer: many babies born preterm like in 32 weeks will not have lung maturity..

.more over they give this betamethasone only if they suspect a preterm delivary.

the immature baby lung cannot produce surfractant. surfractant is lined inside the lungs .this prevent lung from collapsing. if antinatal steroids are not given the baby born will not have lung maturity and it will collapse. hope this explains
it is not due to the betamethasone injection the baby died but there may be other reasons behind it.
hope this explains
