Does Benign Tumor With High Prolactin Level Cause Problem During Conception?

hi i have a benign tumor wich has caused me to have a high prolactin level of 500 this is what my doctor has told me, it was over 1000 a year ago and has gone down but my doctors dont seem to be helping me at all, i was woundering if this is going to stop me from having children?

High prolactin levels can only interfere with getting pregnant if they cause your menstrual cycles to be irregular. If you get normal cycles, it means your hormones are normal and your condition will not interfere with pregnancy.

I am concerned about the levels of your prolactin being so high... Are you on any medication like Bromocriptine? If you are on medication and your levels are so high you really should get an MRI of your brain if you have not had one in the last year. Pituitary adenomas (the kind of tumor you have) can be concerning if they grow larger than 2-2.5 cm. At that size you can have headaches and even lose vision. Sometimes people need surgery if the tumor gets big enough.

So, in summary, the high prolactin levels do not interfere with conception as long as you have normal menstrual cycles. The medication you take to lower the levels (Bromocriptine is safest for pregnancy) will also help you to conceive if you have irregular cycles.
