Does Being In Higher Altitude Area Cause Heart Attack Symptoms?

I am visiting an area that is higher altitude (7000 ft) and had an episode where I thought I was having a heart attack. It continued for about 24 hrs with relief when I took nitro tabs. I am 55 and healthy. I have no insurance so I did not go to a hospital. I still have slight discomfort in my chest but am doing better. Is this altitude sickness or possible heart attack in your opinion and what should I do. Thank you, Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,
Thanks for asking.
Based on your query, my opinion is as follows.
1. At high altitude, pressure on heart will be more and blood viscosity will always increase.
2. As more hemoglobin is required for same oxygen transfer, your heart would be working with extra load.
3. Not to worry. Avoid high altitude or avoid activities if in high altitude, for 2-3 months until body adjusts.
Hope it helps.
Any further queries, happy to help again.
