Does Atherosclerosis Of The Aorta And Diffuse Atherosclerosis Require Medical Attention?

I have had lupus since 1984. Recently I was diagnosed as having athersclerosis of the aorta and diffuse atherosclerosis. My PCP recommends that I see a cardiologist. Do I need to see a cardiologist with experience in cardiovascular conditions in lupus? Thank you.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Dear patient,

Thanks for the query. I believe that any general cardiologist should be able to manage and evaluate your cardiovascular disease; if there are issues from the lupus that are too complex, then a consultation with a cardiologist with interest in rheumatologic diseases would be advisable, and a referral to a tertiary care center in order. For example, in our institution, Dr Reka Mankad has a special interest in that.

Hope that helps, wish you the best,
