Does An Infection In The Belly Button Affect The Baby?

Hello doctor. My name is Zena.

I am 27 week pregnant (first time mum). I have two questions:

1.     I have a belly button infection. Does that effect the baby?

2.     Is it normal not to feel the baby movement very often up until this stage of pregnancy?

Thank you.

Hello dear,I understand your concern. In my opinion the belly button infection might not affect the baby directly. But any infection in body might predispose to uterine irritation and then preterm pains. So it needs to be treated.Usually the well being of fetus is known by the fetal movement count. It should be atleast 10 in a span of 12 hours per day.So observation of fetal movements is important.Less fetal movement count is seen in less liquor and fetal distress etc.
Best regards...Dr.Srilatha
