Does A Polyp On The Cervix During Pregnancy Causes Harm To The Baby?

I am 10 weeks pregant, and I've been spotting all along. When I try having intercourse I bleed. This past visit, my doc found a polyp on my cervix. I was wondering will this harm the baby? Is it risky to have it removed? And does it mean I'll need a c-section?

Hi,
Small polyps and especially those which do not block the way do not pose much problem. Yet, owing to the increased vascularity in pregnancy, polyps tend to increase in size and if this obstructs the cervical opening, progression of normal labor may become difficult. Your consultant should judge if there is a need to remove the polyp now and if so, it can be done at 14-16 weeks. Please abstain from further intercourse until the polyp is cured. Regular monitoring, adequate rest and avoiding stress are mandatory. Wish you safe motherhood.
