Does a change in thyroid levels cause irregular periods?

Hello Doctor, I am Smita Roy, and have come to know about 3 weeks ago that I am having thyroid 13.35. I am getting extreamly fat, and I am suffering from irregular periods and that too very less. Currently my doctor have suggested me to take 50 power tablet of thyroid per day and Lipocut 120 twice daily for helping to reduce my weight. What do u suggest. It will be really good to know from you.
