Does Spironolactone Tend To Increase Or Decrease Prolactin Levels?

Hello, I have a very small (non changing) prolactinoma with a mildly elevated prolactine level controlled with norprolac. I do not take OC anymore because of melasma, so, I curently use mirena. I detest mirena so I will get it removed very soon. I am prescribed spironolactone to treat my AV wish is not happy since I stoped the OC. Does spironolactone tend to increase or decrease prolcatine levels? Best Regards, M

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hello,

Welcome to HCM and thanks for the query.
Studies have shown a reduction in prolactin level in women with PCOS who were treated with spironolactone. This occurred irrespective of whether they had elevated prolactin or prolactin in the normal range. So spironolactone is likely to benefit you, even regarding the prolactinoma.
I shall be happy to answer more queries from you.
Take Care
