Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
To my surprise, a couple of months ago I was diagnosed with Osteoporosis so my Dr suggested that I go onto Prolia which I had injected into my stomach. So far I don t think I have had any side effects, but I am wondering does this drug prevent the Osteoporosis becoming worst or what? I have always done a lot of exercise and eat healthy food, take calcium supplements including vitamin D. I am 70. What s your opinion on Prolia?
Hi, Prolia is desumab. It helps in protection against bone removing cells and improves bone density. It is prescribed on post menopausal osteoporosis as after menopauseestrogen and progesterone reduce thereby increasing bone demineralization. Side effects commonly seen are infections as it reduces the function of immune system. You need to continue the same physical activity, good nutritious diet and supplements of vitamin D and calcium. Try to make surrounding environment elderly friendly to avoid risk of fractures. Prolia should be continued and a bone mineral density test can be done after an year to check for improvements. If you have any further queries, happy to help.
