Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My period was due Thursday and I noticed slight spotting on Friday and thought I was starting.. However nothing since. I ve been taking Ponstan 500mg twice a day for 9 days for a tooth extraction with resulted in dry socket. is the Ponstan delaying my period? I m 46 and normally regular.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice. I appreciate your concern for the safety of Ponstan. The use of Ponstan is not related to delayed period. Ponstan is a NSAID pain killer used to relieve mild to moderate pain including muscle pain, headache, toothache, period pain, pain following an operation or after childbirth, and pain caused by stiff, inflamed and swollen joints.
Its use is associated with heartburn, stomach ulcer, bleeding, abdominal pain, constipation, indigestion, etc. Delayed period might have been caused by other conditions like hormonal imbalance or pregnancy.
Hope this answers your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
