Hi,
Mirtazapine is unlikely to cause
irregular periods. Mirtazapine is an antidepressant which is used to treat
major depression. Its common side effects include severe sedation, constipation, drowsiness, increased
serum cholesterol, increase appetite and weight gain. It is not known to cause irregular periods. Irregular periods could be due to stress, anxiety, emotional disturbance, erratic eating habits, smoking, alcohol, ingestion of certain medications that affect the hormonal balance.
Other than that, conditions like
hypothyroidism, diabetes,
polycystic ovarian disease, must also be ruled out. For this, I advise you to have a thorough gynecological check up including certain tests such as pelvic ultrasound scan, hormonal tests including FSH, LH, TSH, Prolactin, OGTT, DHEAS, Free testosterone, and Lipid profile. Based on the findings, the need for the treatment can be considered.
Hope the advice given above would be useful. Let me know if I can assist you further. A feedback is appreciated.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
