Does Metronidazole Help To Treat Sore Throat And Chest Infection?

I had an ear infection that required the removal of the mastoid. They gave me this medication called metronidazole. I had a few of them left. I have had lung cancer and I now have CLL. I have been taking care of my husband who has an acute respiratory infection.i have a sore throat today and if an infection gets into my chest I will really be sick. I was wondering if these pills or if one would ward this off until tomorrow when the doctors are in.

I appreciate your concern for the safety and efficacy of Metronidazole for the treatment of sore throate and chest infection.

Metronidazole is not effective in the treatment of sore throat or chest infections because the bacteria responsible for these infections are not sensitive to Metronidzole.

Metronidazole is effective only in the treatment of anerobic bacteria, mixed infections (oral cavity), amebiasis, giardiasis but not in the treatment respiratory infections like sore throat of chest infection.

Kindly visit a gp for proper examination and an appropriate course of antibiotics.
