Is there any side effect of taking Galvus Met 50/500 twice a day. I have been taking it along with insulin injection twice a day for last 4 years and the weight has been increased to 75 KG to 85 KG. is the gain f weight is due to Galvus Met? Regards, Amit Basu
Thank you for the query. I would like to know your age, since how long you have been suffering from diabetes mellitus and whether you have any associated conditions like hypothyroidism. GalvusMet 50/500 is composed of Vildagliptin (50mg) and Metformin (500mg). Vildagliptin is a weight neutral drug, whereas Metformin may help in weight reduction. You are unlikely to gain 10kgs of weight due to these drugs. On the other Insulin is an anabolic hormone and may cause weight gain. However, 10 kgs of weight gain is unlikely to be due to Insulin only. I would advise you to restrict your dietary calorie intake (as per your BMI and activity measurements). The daily intake of your calorie must be less than the expenditure. Please go for a daily planned exercise regimen. Do remember that increase in weight and central obesity can lead to poor control of blood sugar (by causing insulin resistance). I would recommend you to visit an endocrinologist, who can address this issue can give you a balanced diet chart. Hope this helps you out.
