Does Gabapentin Help In Alleviating Pain And Burning In Upper Abdomen?

I am a 62 year old female in good health; have been having stomach issues; lots of burning pain; always feeling hungry; after many tests, scans, ultra sound, stomach scoping they figured it could be my gall gladder although the functional test did not show that but I have a strong family history of all female members, two sisters, mother and two nieces had their gall bladders removed. I tried the PPI Dexilant and carafate for weeks; did t help; had loose bowels then constipated; lots of right upper quadrant shoulder pain. I am two weeks out of the surgery and doing better but still have the upper quadrant pain and some burning issues every day no matter what I eat; even water causes that. I am wondering if my vagus nerve may be involved in causing the discomfort? I have taken gabapentin before for arthritis pain in my jaw and it helped so much; I also took it after I had breast cancer in 2003 for hot flashes and found relief. Would this be a possibility???? If so what would be a recommended dosage to begin with ....I would like to discuss it with my primary....

Hi dear!

Thanks for consulting the Physicians at HealthCare Magic. I have worked through your case thoroughly, and I can easily realize your health worries. Being your physician, I reassure you not to worry as things will settle down very soon.

If gallstones and painful, no other word than surgery. Gabapentin DAY 1 300mg PO qDAY; day 2 300 mg PO 12hr; DAY 3 300 mg PO Q8hr. THEN MAINTENANCE DOSEUPTO 600 mg PO q8hr. DOSES GREATER THAN 1800mg/day have no additional benefits.
But as u said u may consult ur PCP before starting.
I think go for opiates for pain until ur urgent possible surgery.
shoulder pain is the referred pain of gall bladder. u need nothing extra for that. remove the cause. TO COME OUT OF A HOLE, STOP DIGGING IT.
May you get very well soon and have a wonderful time ahead. Please don't forget to give your valuable feedback to help us assist you in a better way.

Regards!
