Does Disulfiram Interact With Warfarin?

should i be combining disulfiram 250 mg daily (aka anti-buse) with a warfarin sodium blood thinner 5 to 10 mg daily ? I ve been using blood thinners for many yrs. because of my Leiden V blood clotting disorder. & I ve only recently started using disulfiram to help deter my alcohol drinking. Is there anything else I shouldn t be combining disulfiram with, like anti-depressants,blood pressure medications, trazadone, or clonidine ? And finally, how many weeks or months in a row is advisable for disulfiram intake ? thank you for your help...... jeremiah t. o neill

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Interaction between Disulfiram and Warfarin is found to be moderate.
Disulfiram oral will increase the level or effect of warfarin oral by altering drug metabolism.
Using warfarin together with disulfiram can cause you to bleed more easily. Hence it is advisable not to use two drugs simultaneously.
However, if it is inevitable and you need to use it, then you may need a dose adjustment by testing of your prothrombin time (PT) or International Normalized Ratio (INR).
Kindly consult your Physician for proper management.
Seek medical attention promptly if you have any unusual bleeding or bruising, vomiting, passing of blood in your urine or stools, headache, dizziness or weakness when you are on both the drugs.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
