Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am experiencing PSVT for the last 4 years, but it used to revert back on its own until in July , when i had to be hospitalised and adenosine was given. I had not been taking any medicine before July and it used to occur once in 2-3 months. But after taking DILZEM , the event has occured around 5 times ( from July to Nov).doctors are nw suggesting to go for EPS/RFA. Does DILZEM has any such side effects. Also my Hb is low i.e around 9. please guide. AC
Dilzem ( Diltiazem) is a calcium channel blocking drug which is approved for treatment of PSVT and other conditions like atrial fibrillation and flutter which produce fast heart rate. It is not known to increase the incidence of PSVT. So the increase in frequency is indicative of your problem getting worse. I think it is the right advice of the doctors to do EPS and to proceed to RFA if the aberrant channel is delineated. By the way was your anemia investigated? If not it may be worth while. Anemia can produce a sinus tachycardia.
I shall be interested in knowing your progress. Best wishes
