Does Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride Interact With Hydrochlorothiazide And Verapamil?

Hi I got a prescription for ciprofloxacin hcl and have a list of meds I take, and would like to know if any of them will interfere with it. Hydrochlorathiazide 25mg, verapamil 240 mg, potassium, 10 meq., diazapam 5 mg (only taken for meuinere s disease attacks) tramadol, 50 mg, atorvastatin, 10 mg, losartan, 50 mg. Every one of the ones except meclizine, diazapam, and advil are taken one time a day. advil for pain, when needed, and meclizine, 25mg. only taken when needed because of the disease listed above. I am 75 years of age and in pretty good health. This medication was prescribed because of having, for the first time, uti infection. It seems a bit strong. Thank you. Madeline Papale

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Ciprofloxacin does not have any significant interaction with any of drugs which you are taking. Ciprofloxacin is a relatively safer antibiotic you have been recommended by your doctor for treatment of UTI. Urinary tract infections are the commonest bacterial infection in older people and the risk increases with age. Predisposing factors in old age include diabetes, urinary tract stones, steroid use, and chronic illness impairing immune system.
Advice
1.     Ciprofloxacin 500 mg every 12 hours orally for 7 days
2.     Syrup alkaline citrate 2 teaspoonful three times daily for 1 week
3.     Take other medicines as usual
4.     Drink plenty of water to flush out bacteria
5.     Drink cranberry juice
6.     Do not hold your urine. Urinate when you feel
7.     Investigations
a.     R/E of urine
b.     C/S of urine
c.     TLC & DLC
Thanks
