Does Armour Thyroid Cause Skin Rashes?

I have Hashimotos disease . I took Synthroid for this condition for the last 10 years, but never felt quite right. 2 months ago I starting taking Armour Thyroid instead of Synthroid. Within 1 week of taking the new medicine I started with a itchy rash. Initally the rash was just a small area on my leg, but in the last month it has spread all over my body. It is extremely itchy and it seems to break out on my body symetrically. When I get the rash on one ankle for example..........within 24 hours I will have the rash on the other ankle........ Any thoughts??

Armour thyroid contains extracts from animal thyroid gland. Its not approved by FDA for use. And you are getting reactions to the formulation. Hypersensitivity reaction are more if you the formulation is from an animal source.
I would have suggested my patient to get back on synthroid. I would look at the thyroid function tests and decide on the beginning dose and subsequently adjust dose according to the tests.
