Do Shingles Cause Recurring Rashes And Swollen Lymph Nodes On Neck?

yes my mom went to her family doctor and was told she had the shingles. This was in Nov. but all she got was the rash no blisters, then they came back in Jan 29, and its the same rash always on the bottom of her neck and goes through her head, again she has the same rash only its has spread up all through her head and down her neck and part of her arms. Her lympnoids in her neck on the right side is swollen and she is losing alot of weight, staying tired, but the meds for the shingles are not working. now she is getting this plaque build up in her head with the rash, i want to know if this is the shingles or she needs a second opinion because each time she is getting sicker. Thanks

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if shingles cause recurring rashes and swollen lymph nodes on neck which is a bacterial infection. But there can be other causes also like viral pharyngitis . Shingles can cause skin rashes , but not known to cause lymph node swelling .I would suggest you to

1) Antibiotics are first line of treatment option in this case. In case of mild fever you can take Calpol or paracetamol for relief as well as it will relieve throat pain too.
2) Hot milk with a pinch of turmeric boiled with it at bedtime for 2-3 days as it has antimicrobial action.
3) Avoid spicy and rough food. Take diet rich in soft food.
4) Sip on lukewarm water and take throat lozenges.
5) Take anti inflammatory drugs such as Levocetirizine.

If symptoms keeps on persisting visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. Maintain oral hygiene. Take proper course of antibiotics. Get blood tests done if required. Also apply warm compresses neck twice a day .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
