Do I Have To Continue With The Medication Through Out The Life?

I'm an 81 yr. old man who was diagnosed with MG by a neurologist about 3 years ago. I dont have any symptoms now and think I'm in remission. The doctor is reducing the prednisone dosage. My question is: does someone have to keep taking this medication for the rest of their life?

Hello!

Thank you for asking on HCM!

I read carefully your question and would explain that there are many cases in which medication is needed for the entire life.

But, as you are reducing the dose of steroids, it may be necessary to continue taking neostigmine or other drugs of this class, to help improve your symptoms.

Then you can make a trial and try to reduce the dose and see how your body will react.

If you feel OK and have no symptoms without medication, you can stop them for a short period of time and have periodically scheduled follow ups with your neurologist.
