Do I Have UTI If White Blood Cells Are High Without High Nitrates?

I hAD my urine checked by my doctor. She said my white blood cell count was high but no nitrates so I didn t have a urinary tract infection. I have interstitial cystitis so I have pain and it is hard to tell if it is an infection or not. Do I have an infection if the white blood cells are high without high nitrates?

Urologist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to HCM.
As an Urologist, i can understand your anxiety.
UTI (urinary tract infection),is diagnosed by doing urine culture test.
Nitrates only gives an indication,of the possibility of UTI being present.
High wbc's also indicate possibility of UTI.
Interstitial cystitis( IC) can show mixed up results, of wbc's and nitrates.
For pain, take an alkaliser syrup. You've not mentioned the reports of IC.
Maintain 10-12 glasses fluids daily.
