Diarrhea, Blood And Mucus In Stools. Scheduled For Colonoscopy. Should I Be Concerned?

For most of my life I have dealt with constipation. In the past month I have had many bouts of diarrhea and blood and mucus come out of my rectum. The past few years I have been more regular. I am a vegetarian and with that I eat plenty of fiber and healthy. I have severe cramping and I have always dealt with being gassy. Water makes me belch. I have been checked with a barium enema and when I passed blood a year or so ago I was told it was a hemorrhoid however this time I was told I had no hemorrhoid. I am going for a colonoscopy on Friday which I am told the response was quick in regards to getting a procedure done. Should I be concerned with these problems? I am a smoker.
