Diagnosed with strep throat, sores on tongue, around wisdom teeth. Prescribed penicillin. Cure?

Hi I got diagnosed with strep throat (even though my doctor didn t test me for it) I was prescribed penicillin which seems to be easing the throat, but I have lots of sores over my tongue and around my wisdom teeth which are so painful and getting me down. Should I be seen again? Or is there anything you could recommend I use?

Thank you for posting your worry.

The tongue sore could still be as a result of the strep infection (scarlet fever). So you probably having oropharyngitis due to strep. The penicillin taken will also be able to resolve the tongue sore. There are other possible differentials of the tongue sore like vitamin b12 and folic acid deficiency, oral thrush ( candidiasis), cold sore (oral herpes) etc. An oral exams will need to be done by your doctor to be able to exclude the different causes. You can use mouth wash solutions like hextril in order to take care of the oral affection due to the bacteria. Antiinflammatory will be very helpful here.

Hope this helps
