Diagnosed With Silent Acid Reflux. Not Better With Nexium. Is It Something Else?

I have recently been diagnosed with silent acid reflux. When I eat food about 2 hours later I have chest pain and a feeling that something is caught in my throat, dry cough, hoarse voice and a feeling of my ears are underwater. I have been given nexium for the last 3 days but its not getting any better. Do I have something else..and why am I not getting better?

Hello
welcome to health care magic
Thanks for your query
Recently you are diagnosed with GERD (gastro esophageal reflux disease)...
Normally acid does not flow from stomach to oesophagus..but in GERD due to decreased tone of lower esophageal sphincter acid flows back wards..due to this you may feel symptoms like acid flowing through the throat..
Symptoms of these are heartburn,,difficulty in swallowing, regurgitation, nausea.

In untreated cases it may progress to barrets esophagus,,its a type of metaplasia which may progress to esophageal cancer..

you are taking only proton pump inhibitor nexium..
Along with that you have to take domperidone..
In the market Pantoprazole and domperidone combinations are available.
You have to take it daily in the morning at least half an hour before breakfast..

Apart from medications follow tips to reduce the symptoms
1.avoid eating heavy food particularly in the night
2.avoid taking coffee,chocolate,in the night
3.Keep your head lifted off by placing 2 or more pillows
4.avoid taking alcohol
5.avoid taking masala items at night.

Hope you understand my answer
Thank you
