Diagnosed With Secondary Amenorrhea. Prescribed Norethisterone To Induce Periods. Is This Correct?

Hi, I have been diagnosed with secondary amenorrhea (for 1.5 years). I am 19 years old. My doctor has prescribed me norethisterone to artificially induce a period, so she can check my hormones in a blood test follow-up. However, all the sources I have been reading has associated norethisterone to reducing period blood flow or delaying periods. I am wondering then how this norethisterone can induce a period?

Hello
thanks for your query.
Norethisterone is progesterone which is used to test for withdrawal bleed.
In response to progesterone, the endometrium should build up , and when the drug is withdrawn , a period should occur.
So for evaluation of secondary amenorrhoea, this is the correct first step.
Please take medicines as advised.
All the best.
