Diagnosed With Dementia
Hi, my mother is 86 years old and has dementia. About five years ago she had her gallbladder removed, every since she has had stomach problems and in pain constantly. Ct scans, xrays and MRIs do not show anything wrong. She gets constipated regularly and is now dehydrated and not eating. What is being missed.

short answer: she might be suffering from gastritis. but needed to confirm by gastro intestinal endoscopy and ultrasound abdomen
detailed answer: elderly people if they have gastritis eating will cause a pain in their stomach and they avoid eating. this will cause constipation in many individuals. if i were the treating physician for her i will prescribe her syrup sucralfate before each meal. this will give a coating in the stomach and helps in the healing process of the stomach and they will not feel pain.
