Diagnosed With Chryogobulinanemia And Died. Was Treated Well But Hospitalised And Had Pneumonia. Cause?
My husband was diagnosed with chryogobulinanemia in april and died on August 4th........I'm overwhelmed with not understanding what happened. He was being treated and I thought he was getting better, however he was rushed to the hospital on July 18th and he had pneumonia and it just got worse......why could he not recover?

Hi. Im really sorry for your husband and understand what you must be going through right now. I'm not sure what really happened but i guess he must have been given steroids/ other immunosuppressants for his cryoglobulinemia for sure. These drugs which are essential to control the disease manifestations of cryoglobulinemia, also reduce the immune responses to infection, and may be that is the reason he had a severe pneumonia which could not be controlled with antibiotics and he died of sepsis. Cryoglobulinemia is a condition in which there is excessive formation of immunoglobins in the blood. These immunoglobulins are usually monoclonal. Due to this, patient suffering from this disease has less immunity, so the immune response is very weak to fight with infections. Moreover on hospitalisation, the patients have high chances of acquiring nosocomial (hospital acquired infections). So it is possible that because of weak immunity, your husband may haven't recovered.
