Diagnosed With Astigmatism. Have Been Prescribed With Glasses. Is There Any Treatment For This Except Lasik Surgery?
My son who is 5.3 yrs old has been recently diagonised with astigmatism. His cylindrical power is 3.5 in in both the eyes. He has been advised glasses but with glasses also in vision is not 6/6. My queries are: 1.Should my child wear glasses with the reduced power initially? 2. Are there any chances of glasses removal, if he wears regularly. 3. Are there chances of number being increased of he does wear glasses regularly. 4. Is there is treatment for this except lasik.
This child is having a significant error and without wearing glasses his vision will not be clear either for distance or near which will make him lazy and he will stop playing with his friends. So, this might cause a personality defect in the child.
It is imperative for him to use glasses with prescribed power constantly. It is unlikely to take off the glasses even after regular use. The child should get a periodic checkup every year to check his power of glasses which is unlikely to reduce.
Child can use contact lenses on growing up in case you want to avoid LASIK.
