Diagnosed With PCOD. On Diane 35 For Regular Periods. Can Long Use Of Contraceptives Affect Heart?

I am 43 years old and weigh 76kgs. Have been diagnosed with PCOD and delivered 2 babies with IUI. My children are aged 12 and 7 yrs. I have been using Diane 35 for having regular periods for over a year now. Since I have entered menopausal age and have heard that long usage of contraceptives can affect the heart, I'd like to know how long I can continue using Diane 35. I don't think I can have regular periods without medication as all these years have shown.

Hi,

It is good if you measure the hormones level. As you entered the menopausal age, it is normal for your periods not to be regular.

However, OG prescribe contraceptives to alleviate the flushing concerns of menopausal women. I personally, recommend my patients to take supplements for women in menopause, which contain vitamins and mineral for joints, bones and general health and the extract of certain herbs that can help alleviate the flushing symptoms.

It is true that long-term use of contraceptives (like Diane in your case) cause many health problems including heart disease.

Hope it helped!
