Welcome to HCM.
Atrial fibrilation can be easily diagnosed on ECG, and if the the doctor has diagnosed that, it must certainly be atrial fibrilation. In Ischemic Hear Disease and Atrial fibrilation, breathlessness can be the presenting symptom.
Breathing difficulty can be seen in various chest conditions and the diagnosis is based on clinical examination assisted by special tests such as ECG, Chest Xray etc.
Wishing your wife a very speedy recovery.
