Hello Sir, my father is 62 years of age and confine right now at a hospital. He cant eat or swallow food or water. He suffer stroke a few years ago and now i dont know if he suffered another stroke. He is also Diabetic. He has NGT right now and due to his phlegm, he is also experiencing difficulty in breathing. He was advise that a surgery to his throat will be needed to suction his phlegm and another surgery to his stomach is needed for the food intake. Since the NGT is only temporary as per advise by the doctor because it may cause an infections. Sir, may ask what should i do to help my father?
Your father is a diabetic and had a stroke in the past. Now he is hospitalised and has dysphagia for both solids and fluids. This may be another episode of stroke or he may have any organic cause for the dysphagia. Without intake of food diabetics are prone for hypoglycemia. Naso gastric tube is a temporary arrangement and it can not be in place for long time for reasons like infections. As per doctors advice surgery is the next option you should opt for.
