Diabetic. Fever Due To Urinary Infection. Are Diabetic Patients Prone To Urinary Infections?

Good morning Doctor.

I am in the US and my parents are living in Bangalore. My father is 65 years old and he is a diabetic. He told me that he is having fever as a result of a urinary infection. He is taking some tablets and feeling better. I read Diabetic patients are prone to urinary infections. Is this a cause of concern? What are its long term implications and What is the treatment for this?

Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Diabetics are prone for infections due to high, uncontrolled sugars.

If the urinary tract infection is not treated promptly it will lead to sepsis, kidney infection.

Urinary tract infection requires treatment with antibiotics for appropriate duration.

Ask him to take plenty of water and oral fluids.

Sugars shoul be controlled effectively with medications and with the regular follow up with his physician.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
