Diabetic at young age only 18 First thing is are you type I or Type II or some other kind of Diabetes ?Like MODY (Maturity onset diabetes of the young) or LADA( latent autoimmune diabetes of adults ) are you investigated in this regard as is there family history of Type I in family at any time you reqired to be hospitalized for Ketoacidosis or other complication. If yes chances that you have a diabetes which will require insulin to control ultimately.

Is your blood sugar FBS and PPBS are controlled or not also check HBA1c level. Metformin in SR formulation is to be take Once a day preferably.

Some time Type II occurs in young(MODY) and insulin reqiremet is delayed as comoared to Type I .Because You are over weight you must take required calories balanced diabetic diet.also take as less stress as possible.Join sone kind of Yoga and meditation.

For such patients a Endocrinologist and a Dietician jointly manage Diabetes quite well ,There are Insulin Pumps and Very good Insulin for control of Diabetes .So you are as normal as any one.

Good Luck.
