Diabetes, COPD, Getting Weaker. Had Heart Attack And Stents Were Put. Is There Anything We Can Do To Strengthen Legs?

My mother is 80 and weighs about 120 lbs, she is 5 7 . She is diabetic, she has COPD , she had a heart attack 2 months ago and 3 stents were put in. She was in Methodist Hospital in Houston, she had fabulous care. She seemed stronger and stronger everyday. Her Dr. sent her to Methodist Cardiac rehab for 10 days prior to coming home. We are now home with PT coming in, and visiting nurses coming in. My concern is that she seems to be getting weaker. Especially in her legs. Prior to the heart attack she never slowed down. She still drove went to church 3 days a week went out with friend everyday and now she can t seem to walk to and from the bathroom without her legs feeling all noodley . Is there anything we can do to strenghthen her legs. She is a vegetarian due to kidney issues so she does not eat much animal protien. Due to the COPD she has been on steroids for a month trying to build her lungs up, so her glucose is running extremely high, 500+. She was never insulin dependent prior to the heart attach and the steroids it was controlled by diet and meds. She is not on insulin. Back to main question...anything suggestions to help strengthen the legs the legs.

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hi
1 as she had attended cardiac rehabilitation , we need to folloe that strictly .
2 presently in post operative and stressfull situation , insulin is must . and we must aim at good controll of sugar
3 Muscle weakness may be due to steroids , poor glucose controll , poor protein intake and COPD . This all needs multidisciplinary approach - team of dietician , rehab expert , physiotherapist along with cardiologist , diabetologist .
4 do consult with diabetologist for better sugar controll .
5 chest physician opinion and prohylactic vaccinations may help in COPD
6 consult cardiologist for review of medicines , at times dose reduction of statins may also help to controll myalgia - muscle aches .
Thx
