Developing Severe Lower Extremity Edema, Have DDD, Multiple Fusions. Can Spinal Issues Cause Edema?

I am developing severe lower extremity edema. I have DDD and multiple fusions. Every time I am in need of another lumbar fusion, the edema seems to occur. After surgery, the edema stops. My pain doc has switched all my meds to make sure it's not a med issue. And I have had a complete cardiac work up. Can spinal issues cause edema?

Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The degenerative changes in the spine are not likely to cause the pedal edema. You need to consult a physician to rule out any systemic causes of such swelling.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
