Delay In Periods After Taking Althea Pills And Having Unprotected Sex. Can I Pregnant?

My friend is a bit paranoid, she took althea pills (21 tabs).. She told me, it s her 1st time to take the pills. Within the first 7days, she had an unprotected sex.. The tablets were taken regularly though, and now, she is on her 7th day of the 7day tablet free but she hasn t had her cycle yet.. She s worried if she s pregnant. Is there something that she should worry about?

Hello and welcome,

I undertand the concern. pregnancy is possible while taking pills if the pills are not taken as per directions. If the pills are not started on day 1 of periods and backup contraception is not used for 7 days in this case, then pregnancy is possible. However the chances are very low.
So please check that if the pack was started on day 1 of period. If yes, then there is no need to worry as pregnancy is not likely.
Other reason for the delayed period may be stress as she thinks she might be pregnant. So please ask her to relax.

If it was not started on day 1 and you do not want the baby in case she is pregnant: My advice to you is let her continue with the pills irrespective of periods. Get a pregnancy test done a week after the expected date of the period using the first morning urine sample. If it is negative then there is no need to worry as pregnancy will be ruled out.

Hope this satisfies your query.
